David Vansteenbrugge,
CEO,
Kom op tegen Kanker
Description
‘You have cancer.’ More than 45,000 Flemish people are given this diagnosis every year. 1 in 4 women develop the disease before the age of 75. In men it is even 1 in 3. Fortunately, survival rates are up. This means increasingly more people live with the consequences of cancer. In Flanders more than a quarter of a million already. Kom op tegen Kanker (Stand up to Cancer), an independent ngo and non-profit organisation, plays a leading role in this and is the point of contact in the fight against cancer in Flanders and Brussels.

Interview Questions
1. How do you and your team stay motivated during challenging times?
Our motivation comes from the powerful mission that unites us: Until we lose no more loved ones to cancer, we prevent, fight, and soften the disease and advocate for better cancer policies. We mobilise as many people as possible to commit to fighting cancer.
Even in difficult moments, we stay focused because our work has real, lasting impact. The meaningfulness of our mission inspires us to give our best every day. We draw strength from each other and from the people we serve — their stories and courage remind us why this fight matters.
We’re not just doing a job; we’re part of a cause that saves lives and brings hope.
2. Why did you choose SD Worx as your HR and Payroll partner?
We chose SD Worx because you offer the best payroll system in Belgium. It’s not only reliable, but also as flexible as possible and easy to work with — with the most possibilities to extend, customise, and follow up through clear and detailed reporting.
But it goes beyond the system. We have been working with SD Worx for a long time and have built strong connections with several employees. That personal connection means a lot — whether it’s about payroll or other HR solutions, it’s always easy to get back in touch and find solutions together.
It’s a true partnership based on trust, accessibility, and shared understanding. That makes all the difference, so actually it is more a fellowship.
3. What mindset do you believe is key to crossing the finish line — in sports or business?
The mindset that makes the biggest difference — whether in sports or in business — is believing in the power of togetherness. True success isn’t about going it alone — it’s about connection, support, and shared purpose.
At Kom op tegen Kanker, just like at SD Worx, we believe in the strength of connection and community. We know that when people feel supported, included, and driven by something bigger than themselves, they can overcome even the toughest challenges.
Personally, I’ve seen that progress doesn’t come from perfection — it comes from perseverance, trust, and leaning on one another when the road gets steep. The finish line becomes possible when we celebrate each other’s strengths and keep going, step by step, side by side.
Whether it’s fighting cancer or striving for excellence in business, we go further — and faster – when we lift each other up and work as one.
