When the pandemic arrived, many big-picture HR strategies gave way to firefighting, as workplace norms transformed overnight.
This ultimately led to a trend in many companies of investing in point solutions to deal with HR challenges as they arise. In such an environment, it can be easy to see skill mapping as less of a priority.
When employee skills aren’t captured accurately, it’s impossible to connect people with relevant growth

It’s important to recognise that if you ask managers about the skills of their employees, you’ll be having a very different conversation than if you ask an employee to name their own strengths.
New digital tools and AI create the opportunity to harness data that goes well beyond qualitative assessments,
enabling a comprehensive analysis of factors that contribute to an individual’s skill profile. But remember that a tool is only as useful as you make it: a holistic understanding of employee potential can only be achieved when you combine the right tools with the right attitude and are willing to embrace unexpected talent in undiscovered places.
